2017 – 2018 Club Highlight: Toronto Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs are our club highlight for the 2017-2018 season! With over 20,000 #HockeyScholars and counting, the team has gone above and beyond engaging students, teachers, and even parents throughout the school year. Check out below what they’ve done to support Future Goals in their market!

School Visit

On February 9th, Zach Hyman, Connor Brown, and alumni Darryl Sittler visited Lambton-Kingsway Junior Middle School. The players spoke to and met over 300 students throughout the day, stressing the importance of education, healthy lifestyles, and all things hockey. Check out the video for more!

100th Birthday – School Viewing Parties

The Toronto Maple Leafs wanted to share their birthday with #HockeyScholars across the GTA. Fifteen schools participating in the Future Goals program were hand selected to receive a special care package to prepare for their matinee game against the Carolina Hurricanes. Schools received login information to stream the game for their students and giveaways (tickets, signed items, rally towels & more)! Over 6,000 students watched the game at school!

AHL – Marlies Ticket Connection

With the Toronto Marlies living under MLSE, the Maple Leafs were able to coordinate tickets for Future Goals families late in the season and throughout the AHL playoffs. While we were rewarding students & teachers for participating in the program, it was required for teachers/parents to sign up for Leafs Nation, the team’s Fan Club, in order to receive the tickets. This helped the team stay in communication with these Hockey Scholar advocates throughout the season!

Open Practice

Close to 400 students were invited to an open practice at Maple Leafs Gardens in February! A handful of classrooms were excited about the opportunity, and couldn’t believe they earned it through Future Goals.

Teacher Training

In mid-December, the Leafs welcomed 30 educators to the Air Canada Centre to learn more about the Future Goals program. In addition to getting assistance with getting started on the resource, everyone got to meet alumni Dave McLlwain and tour the arena!

Merchandise Giveaways

The team was generous enough to provide items throughout the year that could be used to incentivize teachers to use the program in a given time period. Items included signed jerseys from Frederik Andersen & Mitch Marner, team signed sticks, and more! It’s always great to incorporate these giveaways into conversations, as teachers get excited at the opportunity to support the team & program.

Social Media & PSA

In the beginning of the year, the Leafs brought together multiple players to film a Hockey Scholar PSA! Check it out.

The team is also heavily involved with social media throughout the season. The Future Goals team provides specific dates for posts, but they also tweet consistently about the program to help draw in new teachers!
