Minnesota Wild February 2022 Teacher of the Month
Tell us about yourself!
I was born and raised in St. James, Minnesota where I was fortunate enough to have my father as a teacher twice. The passion he had for teaching is what sparked my interest. After graduating from St. James High School, I completed my Bachelor of Science in Education at Winona State University in Winona, Minnesota in 2003. I then started teaching 8th grade Earth Science in Prior Lake, Minnesota. After teaching for four years, I decided to continue my education by completing my Master of Science in Secondary Geology Education at the University of Wisconsin, River Falls. I also made a job change to Lake Middle School teaching 9th grade Physical Science and 8th grade Earth Science. Through the years I have changed content areas and grades. I am now currently teaching Earth and Physical Science to 8th graders. I am married to my wonderful wife Megan, and we live in Hudson, WI. I am happy to be the father of 2 great kids, Ella, and Cade. Both kids keep us on our toes, and we love it. I try to approach life with the same sense of curiosity, humor, and wonderment that they do. More than anything I love teaching science and hope to pass some of my knowledge and enthusiasm on to you!
Who is your favorite NHL® player and why?
Mike Peluso – Friend of mine but my favorite hockey player is Karyn Bye – she was the alternate captain of the 1998 Winter Olympics gold-medal winning United States Women’s Hockey Team.
What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?
The Future Goals program serves as a great review for our states standardized test. I have the students complete the different activities throughout the year to prepare them for both the Math & Science MCA tests.
