Why did you decide to become a teacher?

I decided to become a teacher because I enjoy working with young people who need guidance, just like I did. I had a great upbringing with a supportive family. However, sometimes you need a different or outside perspective. That’s what my teachers provided and I want to do the same.

What has been your most memorable moment as a teacher?

Just one? Long story short I made a foul shot to break a tie and get our class in the final race for a run off on field day. Not academic but so encouraging.  I admonished  the first girl in the relay  race to “not look back.”  I knew she had to run twice as our team was down a member. I also watched her dominate all day so I knew she could do it during the relay. Consequently I told her not to look back as that’s the only thing that would slow her down. Well she, and her teammates never did look back and they won! They tried to give me the credit because I got them in the run off. Negative! I reminded them they ran the relay. I may have got them in but they had to finish, which they did. This was their victory as they earned it!

What is your favorite part of Future Goals and how are you using it in your classroom? 

What I love about Future Goals is the unique way it brings the content to life. The content is challenging so it requires real effort. I try to match students who are ready for the challenge. It also introduces students to hockey which is something new for them.

What was your student’s reaction to the program?

They like the way the content is introduced, reinforced, and practiced. Also the “newness” of the whole sport of hockey!

Who is your favorite player?

Sebastian Aho. Amazing skill for such a young player. He is getting more proficient every year. What more can someone ask?
