Tell us about yourself!

My name is Crysta Hines. Current Business Teacher at Rogers-Herr Middle School in Durham, NC. I have been a CTE middle school business teacher for 20 years. The courses I teach include computers skills and applications with MS Office and Google applications. Also I teach entrepreneurship and economics. Growing up in a family of educators is what lead to my passion to teach. I love seeing my students growth over the years. As a middle school elective teacher I have the opportunity for my students to return each year. It is amazing to see students’ growth from 6th – 8th grade. I chartered and I am the current advisor of the Future Business Leaders of America club at Rogers-Herr Middle School. This allows students the opportunity to network and compete in various competitions. My motto for this year is “Mind Your Own Business” which means my students will leave the classroom with skills needed to be ready for their future.

Who is your favorite NHL® player and why?

I choose Eric Staal because he helped lead the Hurricanes to their first Stanley Cup win.

What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?

My favorite part of the program is students learning what goes on behind the scenes in order for the game to be played. It also gives them insight into various careers along with being a professional hockey player. Students are able to have a hands-on experience of using math and science skills in a career.

If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?

If I played hockey I would choose to be a goalie. I find it a challenge stand at the goal to block the other team from scoring.
