Tell us about yourself!

I am a 30 year veteran teacher, the last 29 years at Towne Acres. I currently teach 3rd grade all subjects. I have also taught 1st grade. I am a lead teacher for my grade level, the sponsor for our school Student Ambassador team, and a district-wide tech leader. I also lead professional development sessions within the district. I have always wanted to be a teacher. I even taught my stuffed animals as a little girl. I was inspired by my 3rd grade teacher and my best friend’s mom, who was also a teacher. I love teaching! Watching students have “lightbulb” moments is amazing! I also love having students come back after they’ve been in my class just to check in. Besides school, I am involved in my church and other community groups.

What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™ program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?

My favorite part of the Future Goals program was showing my students how math correlates with the real world. It also gave me a chance to introduce students to the sport of hockey. There are many opportunities to showcase STEM through hockey- for example, students could make their own hockey stick, goal or puck.

If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?

I would play center because I like to know what’s going on and see all of my options.
