Tell us about yourself!

I have been teaching for 15 years. I currently teach 8th grade Algebra and Geometry in Richmond, VA. I fell in love with teaching during a four-year stint as substitute teacher for Los Angeles Unified School District. Teaching grew on me and became my calling. I am passionate about the role of insight in the learning process, and try to develop holistic learning experiences that generate insight. In addition to teaching, I have started and led a youth orchestra, sponsored National Junior Honors Society, founded local philosophy clubs, and served on the board of non-profit organizations.

Who is your favorite NHL® player and why?

Alexander Ovechkin because he never gives up and has good sportsmanship.

What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?

I like that students have to kind of figure things out on their own, rather than the steps being explicitly shown to them. Future Goals scaffolds the activities so that students gradually work up to the learning target. Hockey is a great driver for STEM conversations because there is math and science involved in everything from rink design to the physics of puck movement.

If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?

Goalie because you can do a lot to help your team.
