Tell us about yourself!

As a student-focused special educator who has experience developing and implementing a diverse curriculum for middle school math and science, Janay Sanders makes it her mission to motivate the world’s next leaders. She does so by encouraging and reinforcing strategic learning concepts through interactive classroom instruction and observation. While raised in Queens, New York, Janay set out on a path to higher education in Washington, D.C. where she studied at Howard University. After obtaining her B.S. degree in Health Care Administration, Janay returned home to attend Metropolitan College of New York where she earned her MBA and started working on an additional MA degree in education. During that time she taught in NYC and her certification in Math and Science recently landed her back where it all started in D.C. While in her 5th year as a teacher, Janay currently works as a STEM Coordinator for Howard University’s Middle School of Math & Science. She not only provides effective classroom management, creative lesson plans and structured IEP plans, but performs detailed student evaluations, too. When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, she shifted her skillset to provide an equally effective virtual learning experience that incorporated a variety of instructional strategies, activities, and resources for distant learning after studying her students’ learning styles. Fueled by a passion for education, Janay prides herself on her commitment to three things: maximizing individual student performance, inspiring students’ interest in technology and instilling a sense of self-worth among all students, special needs included. Her continuing goal is to be a compassionate, enthusiastic, intelligent teacher who will make a positive contribution to the communities she serves
