Tell us about yourself!

I decided to become a teacher after witnessing a classmate with autism being bullied on the playground when I was in 4th grade. Standing up for him made me feel invincible and I aim to empower students to feel that way too. I’ve taught for 7 years and I teach 3rd grade. I also highly enjoy working within our local community by co-leading our Student Leadership program. Leadership hosts an annual Food Drive, and this year students donated 1,358 pounds of goods to the Food Bank. In past years, I’ve helped to lead our Leadership students in conducting a Crayon Drive for Seattle Children’s Hospital and also hosted an Egg Drop raising over $3,000 for The Guide Dog Foundation. I highly enjoy watching students become multifaceted in their talents as I aim for them to give back to the community.

What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?

My favorite part of the Future Goals program has been the high levels of engagement that my students show, and they express loving their learning through this program. My class sees STEM in hockey through geometry work. We have learned about angles while we interact with the lessons provided through the Future Goals program. I also love that this program does a great job connecting with teachers providing them with student workshops for their classrooms so students can utilize fun digital tools.

If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?

Though I didn’t play hockey growing up, I did play lacrosse which helped me to understand hockey better, as they share many similarities. I played goalie, and I can only imagine the talent it takes to be an NHL goalie given the speed and intensity I see on the ice. If I were to play hockey myself, I’d still want to give this position a try. But, baby steps first, perhaps I should start with learning to skate!
