Tell us about yourself!

I have been teaching middle school students, at Palo Verde, for 23 years. I have been the Technology teacher for the last 8 years, but have taught a variety of subjects during my career. I decided to become a teacher due to the fact that my mom and aunts were teachers; it’s what I knew, what I saw, what I fell in love with as a child. What I love most about teaching is connecting with the students, building relationships with them, getting to know them. I live in my school’s community, so I have always advocated for the neighborhood and helped in any way I could, one of which was being a part of the UNA. My school and neighborhood are dear to my heart as my children were raised in the neighborhood, the three of them attended Palo Verde and now my grandson is at Palo Verde.

Who is your favorite NHL® player and why?

Retired player -Wayne Gretzsky Being that I never played hockey and/or have had very little exposure to it, I always knew who Wayne Gretzsky was. What I know of him is that he always played his heart out and is just a good person, one that you can respect.

What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?

My favorite part is that the games are engaging. The program enables the students to feel like they are really a part of a hockey team and what the team experiences. STEM is a part of hockey in myriad of ways including measuring angles, speed and distance formulas, coordinate planes, force and friction, potential and kinetic energy and phases of matter.

If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?

I would want to be a forward so I could have the most opportunity to score! 🏒
