Tell us about yourself!

I currently teach 7th grade Media Literacy and K-6 technology at a project-based learning school where we link learning to life. I became a teacher because I’ve always been creative and leaned towards jobs that worked with children. Now I use my creativity everyday. Creativity is the perfect opportunity to make change in education and provide learning opportunities that are more fun and engaging than I was given while utilizing students’ interests and talents, like sports, art, and computers. Ways I’ve contributed to my community include providing a continuously effective online model for education for families continuing to choose online learning.

What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?

First, I think it’s great that students can choose their team. That’s an instant, gamified hook into students’ interest and they have already forgotten its learning. They are in game mode. Then from the temperature necessary to keep the ice safe, the tools involved to freeze the ice, smooth the ice, engineer the uniforms, and angle the puck for a goal, it’s an entire STEM exploration that builds curiosity to other favorite sports and the STEM involved in those. Learners turn into critical thinkers and investigators!

If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?

Wing, because I want to attempt angle shots passed Jarry in real life!
