Tell us about yourself!

Curtis Wagner has completed 19 years of teaching in the K-8 classroom. He has taught 10 different subjects including math and science with a focus on incorporating STEM into all aspects of the curriculum. He currently teaches grade 7 at Father Robinson School in Saskatoon. He became a teacher due to his love of lifelong learning, passion for creativity and everyday opportunities to make a difference in the lives of youth.

“I strive to be that person that provides love, reassurance, and attention that youth need. I want to show, not just tell, my kids that with dedication and hard effort, they can achieve anything and be anything they want to be. I want to make my classroom a safe place for all who enter, where teamwork and empathy are praised as much as a good test result. I believe that with compassion and understanding, I can assist students in reaching their full potential.”

Curtis has volunteered for 20 non-profit organizations and charities including fundraising, community and youth events, and serving the less fortunate and most vulnerable. He is a strong education professional with a Master of Education. He obtained in-depth curriculum and STEM knowledge through developing over ten publications including three textbooks. He was recognized as a Google Certified Educator and a Semi-finalist at the Microsoft Innovative Educator awards in Cape Town, South Africa. His advanced educational technology skills were acquired from developing online courses, as a Distance Learning teacher and by using innovative practices to incorporate 21st century and skills into the classroom. He is known for his involvement in over fifty projects in Film, TV and radio – some internationally recognized. Films have been aired publicly through various organizations including the Dr. Phil Show and placed in International Film Festivals after competing against filmmakers from 50 countries.

Through presenting to audiences of up to 1000 people, he has honed his facilitation and public speaking skills. He has garnered national distinction for leading teams responsible for large-scale events and social and environmental justice programs. He is passionate about incorporating treaty education and First Nations, Metis, and Inuit ways of knowing into his teaching and working together to promote truth and reconcilliation.

Wayne Gretzky. Not only is he one of the greatest hockey players, but also an excellent role model. He did considerable charity work including forming the Wayne Gretzky Foundation to help teach underpriveledged youth important life skills through sport.

What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?

Students get to learn STEM skills by playing fun, interactive hockey math games. It is a really engaging learning experience for all my students and best of all it’s free.

If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?

Defense, defensemen in Hockey are a critical position as they are the main players responsible for slowing down the opposing team.
