Why did you decide to become a teacher?

I knew from the time I was little that I wanted to be a teacher and used to play “school” all the time 🙂  I actually just published a book connected to this very subject. I wanted to be a school to inspire others, teach creativity, have students follow their passions and teach my love of the game for hockey to younger generations as well as staff and make a positive impact in the world. Hockey offers this opportunity so widely that it is incredible.

What has been your most memorable moment as a teacher?

WOW! So many to choose from. I think knowing kids love learning and seeing them achieve their personal best as well as coaching. I’ve coached floor hockey my entire career and annually run a tournament for many schools and teams in Calgary. The tourny is for fun, sportsmanship, and to raise money for charity. We generally raise $12,000 in a one day tourny for grade 6 students (6 teams of 11 year olds). Super cool!  We support the Flames Foundation when we can.

What is your favorite part of Future Goals and how are you using it in your classroom?

I love this program. It’s so cool and feels so real. Seeing the dressing room and it’s so hands on while deeply connected to the curriculum. Students LOVE it and it’s very engaging.

What was your student’s reaction to the program?

TOTAL JOY!!  Cheering, pumped up, super FUN!!  They love it!

Who is your favorite player?

My all-time favorite player is Jarome Iginla for his selfless acts of giving back to the community, his leadership, heart and drive. My current faves include Mark Giordano for similar reasons: giving back to the community, and leadership. Also, who doesn’t love Johnny!!
