Tell us about yourself!

I am Shelby Gansen and I teach 6th Grade Science at Vikan Middle School in Brighton,CO. I have been teaching for 7 years. This is my 3rd year at Vikan. I became a teacher because I absolutely love working with kids. I love the relationships that I build with them. Although cliche, I love when students have their light bulb moment after figuring out something.

Who is your favorite NHL® player and why?

Cale Makar because he is an incredible defenseman. He also helps score a lot!

What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?

I love how the program is very interactive. The students were super engaged with it! I even had a student tell me if was super fun! I see STEM in hockey in a lot of different ways, all the way from designing uniforms to keep players safe to making sure the ice is able to play on.

If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?

I would play defense because it is my favorite.
