Why did you decide to become a teacher?

My high school math teacher put me in a position to help other students who were struggling with some specific math topics in calculus. During those times working with my classmates I found my passion and desire to help others in math. From there on I wanted to use my talents to help other students become successful in math.

What has been your most memorable moment as a teacher?

As a teacher my most memorable moment has to be the excitement and joy of seeing students overcome adversity in the classroom when for so long they feel like they are not good at math. Year after year a few students always say to me that they thought they were never good at math but that I gave them the reassurance that they can be good at whatever they want to be if they have a positive attitude, be resilient, and embrace who they are.

What is your favorite part of Future Goals and how are you using it in your classroom?

I love how Future Goals allow students to see real life experiences with math outside of the classroom! I use the math games as activities to reinforce what we are doing in class. However once the students do the first game I can not get them to stop playing.

What was your student’s reaction to the program?

They love the activities and want to learn more about how math and science are both used in hockey. We talk about ideas that are higher level that 5th grade, but since the application is so real students develop and understanding very quickly! This is an amazing resource that I will continue to use year after year.

Who is your favorite hockey player?

I would say that Rick Nash is probably my favorite Blue Jacket.
