Tell us about yourself!

My name is Matthew Martin, I am a first year teacher at Our Lady of Mount Carmel. I teach grade 6 ELA, Math, Religion, Science, and I am the hockey athletic director and head instructor at our school. I decided to become a teacher to be a positive role model and provide students with some of the great experiences that were given to me as a child. What I love most about teaching is working with the youth and seeing them grow their appreciation for learning.

What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?

My favorite pat of this program is having students connect different content learning to their passion or sport that they love. STEM is part of hockey with the technology of the equipment and the ice surfaces. Students can use green stems and incorporate strategies and inventions to help make or understand the game easier.

If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?

I played forward because I liked being involved in all areas of the game.
