Tell us about yourself!

My teaching career began teaching math and science from grade 7 to 12. I decided to become a teacher because I love kids and their brilliance. My teaching moved from a classroom to my home when my first baby was born, four babies in five years and stayed home with them until my youngest became a grade 1 student. I headed back to a middle school classroom. I love that students keep me learning, they keep me on my toes and they have so much knowledge inside them that is waiting to be discovered. I encourage kids to be “Snow Angels” in the winter, “Secret Santa for Seniors” program that bridges generational gaps, “Socktober” for the homeless, “Drop and Shop” gently used clothing drives, “Scare Away Hunger” for our food bank, “Toothbrush & Paste” drive for women’s shelters. I love that students make me a better mom, friend, teacher, and person.

What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?

I love that all students are included, even if they don’t follow hockey. STEM is everywhere! Hockey has amazing opportunities to see STEM, including: area, angles of shots or passes, bank passes, hard rim passes (circumference), accuracy (statistical analysis), plus/minus (integers), reflection (normal line, angle of incidence, angle of reflection), and so much more!

Who is your favorite NHL® player and why?

Wayne Gretzky and Connor McDavid because they are Canadian and they play for my favourite team. They are both humble and kind. I love that Connor doesn’t ever take credit for his ability. I love that he discussed Ben when the sportscasters wanted a story about his milestones. I love that they are community oriented. I love that a couple of Canadian kids are willing to live in a city that doesn’t have what lots of American cities have. I love that they love the game of hockey and appreciate the fans.

If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?

I would be a forward who forechecks hard, backchecks ferociously, and sets up goals. I appreciate smooth skating, crisp passing, and well-rounded players.
