Tell us about yourself!

This year I have a combined grades three and four class, and I have been teaching for over 30 years. I became a teacher to gain the rewarding experiences of working with children, and building lifelong learning skills. What I love most about teaching is the feeling of delight when I notice students reaching that ‘ah-ha’ moment. There are opportunities to be able to make a positive difference in the students’ learning and in their lives.

I am involved in my local community by volunteering at events dependent upon my schedule. In the past, I had regularly volunteered on my children’s community sports teams as a score keeper, time setter, and referee liaison. During other times I enjoy reading books, and watching hockey and basketball games.

Who is your favorite NHL® player and why?

My favorite NHL player is Connor McDavid because he is an amazing and skilled player and a great leader. I am so happy that Connor is with the Oilers!

What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?

My favorite part of Future Goals is that this program offers opportunities to students to make connections to the real world. I am using Future Goals to introduce hockey to my students since they do not have any experiences with hockey, as well as having them learn math and science concepts. In connection to STEM in the game of hockey, the students can experience the visuals of how things work, for example, learning about how the Zamboni works, how the ice rink is made.

If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?

If I played hockey, I would enjoy playing center in order to make the plays, to take faceoffs and to make shots on goal.
