Tell us about yourself!

After 32 years in the 7-12 mathematics classroom, two successful National Board Certification endeavors, and work with professionals throughout the state of Pennsylvania both as a teacher and a union leader, I continue to challenge myself to find new experiences, curriculum opportunities, and technologies to help me as well as my students grow. Most importantly, I’ve used multiple technologies with my students for my entire career, but much more so in the last 15 years. I am interested in continuing to push myself to strive to be better while remembering that I am not perfect and there is always room for growth and improvement.

What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?

The best part about the Future Goals program is that it is engaging for students and shows them real life applications of mathematics and science in one of the games they know and love. STEM is present everywhere in the game of hockey from the geometry and symmetry of the ice rink and angles of shots that are taken to the physics of the speed of players and vectors of all movement in the ice rink.

Who is your favorite NHL® player and why?

Sidney Crosby is my favorite NHL hockey player as he works hard, is a team player, and is humble. You never see Sid in trouble or acting irresponsibly. He is a great role model for young students. Moreover, he had adopted Pittsburgh as his US-based home once he was drafted.

If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?

If I played hockey, I would play goalie since I generally help direct or oversee the teams I am part of. In hockey, it feels as if the goalie serves that role.
