Tell us about yourself!

I teach eighth grade science at Franklin Regional Middle School. I have been teaching for ten years. I decided to become a teacher because I enjoy learning about and trying new things myself and wanted to encourage growth mindset in students. Having the opportunity to personally work with students and get to know their individual interests and passions is my favorite part of teaching. I feel honored to have the chance to walk in so many different children’s lives and be a supportive adult who encourages them to seek out opportunities to pursue their dreams. I am also involved in our local community through coaching sports and leading extra-curricular group activities. Aside from being a teacher, my two most greatest joys and passions are being a wife to my incredible husband (who encourages me and supports me daily) and a mother to my five beautiful children.

Who is your favorite NHL® player and why?

Sydney Crosby is my favorite NHL player because I felt as though I could follow in his story from the beginning of his professional career with the Penguins. I feel as though he is a loyal, dedicated, hard working athlete who inspires people like me to have pride in our daily jobs and activities. I can relate to his energy, dedication, and drive.

What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?

My favorite part of the Future Goals program is the differentiation that exists in the game options to allow for students of different levels and abilities to participate in a game that is most appropriate for them. I see STEM used in the game of hockey constantly. There is science involved in preparation and maintenance of the rink and arena. There is technology involved in coaching and broadcasting the game. There is engineering involved in the design and production of clothing and equipment. There is mathematics involved in the player statistics/analysis and play calls.
