Tell us about yourself!

Been teaching at Cedar Heights Middle School for 23 years as a 8th grade health & fitness teacher as well as a computers and technology electives teacher. Love seeing the students successes and their learning from mistakes. I decided to become a teacher because of the impact I could make on students through teaching and coaching. As far as helping in the community I am a active member of the 501st charity organization which suits up as Star Wars characters and raises funds for organizations such as Children’s Hospital and others in need.

Who is your favorite NHL® player and why?

Have to go with the hometown goalie Phillip Grubauer as I have really enjoyed watching his play and his work ethic.

What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?

I really enjoy the fact that it integrates a video game type quality while solving STEM concepts and introducing new concepts to students. It is very similar to a video game for some students. They are learning without knowing they are learning. There is a lot to know/learn about STEM in the game of hockey from how to keep the ice playable to the design of the sticks, and data information using math for speed/quickness. Personally I love stats and numbers & science so both the courses are great learning tools for students in my opinion and it is a great way for students in my area to learn more about the game of hockey since it is not a sport or activity that has been prevalent in my area.

If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?

Goalie! Definitely goalie because its where a lot of the action is. You are the last line of defense and the game is in your hands!
