Tell us about yourself!

My journey to teacher is very much the opposite of what a lot of people do. When I was first going off to college, my mom, who was a teacher herself for 30 years, told me “Sean, study what you want to study…. But don’t be a teacher”. This resonated with me, and I decided to go to business school and major in marketing with a concentration in sales. Unfortunately, after working what I thought should have been my dream job, a sales job at a large corporation with amazing benefits and salary, I felt empty and miserable. I ended up leaving sales after 2 years and ended up landing a job as an instructional assistant with FCPS. From my very first step into the classroom, I realized I was actually helping people instead of taking from them, I knew I was in the right place.

What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?

Anything that enables kids to see the real life application of what they are learning is an amazing experience. Our very first unit of the year covered Energy, Force, and Motion, which are all vital pieces of Hockey’s equation and without understanding the why behind them, the puck’s movement almost seems like magic.

Who is your favorite NHL® player and why?

It’s hard to pick any player aside from Alexander Mikhailovich Ovechkin (Ovi), the man has been the face of the Capitals Hockey team since I was a teenager. Plus, watching him pick up the Stanley Cup back in 2018 was magical.

If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?

I would probably play left wing if I had to choose. I’d love to set up in “Ovi’s Office” and see what happens during a power play!
