Buffalo Sabres November 2022 Teacher of the Month
Tell us about yourself!
I have been teaching at Mexico Middle School for 20 years. I have been in an ICT (special education – push in classes) classroom my entire time. About 8 years ago our district implemented a Digital Literacy course for 5th and 6th grade students. I decided to become a teacher later in life, after being a stay at home for a few years. I volunteered for my boys when they were in elementary school. I love the being able to connect with the students and seeing them grow as scholars! I work with Special needs students in after school sports and am a wish granter with Make-A-Wish of CNY.
Who is your favorite NHL® player and why?
My favorite hockey player is Alex Tuch. He is a local boy and he also gives back to Maureens Hope which is an organization that supports families of children with cancer. I was very excited when he came to the Sabres!
What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?
There are several features of the Future Goals program that I find amazing. In particular, the program allows students to connect to real-world examples of STEM with the infusion of high interest, such as sports (especially the Bruins). As an Engineering teacher, I see so many science and math concepts incorporated into the strategies and technologies that the players use to play and improve the game.
If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?
If I played hockey I would be a goalie, because I like seeing the big picture!
