Why did you decide to become a teacher?
I’m a connections kind-of person and teaching allows me to make individual connections with my students. Those connections help me engage students in learning at many different levels. I have found these connections to be life-long as students share some of their accomplishments with me later in life!
What has been your most memorable moment as a teacher?
My most memorable moment as a teacher is being able to educate 2nd generation students. I have had the privilege of teaching students of my former students and that is a blessing. Many times I’m able to catch-up with them and proudly tell their child about having their parent as a student also.
What is your favorite part of Future Goals and how are you using it in your classroom?
My favorite part of Future Goals is the interaction students have with the program. The course is set up to instruct and inform students without them knowing it. So many times students will tell or show me about certain aspects of the course and when I ask them if they liked the lesson their response is, “that wasn’t learning, it was fun!” That’s the best way students learn!!
What was your student’s reaction to the program?
Students love the graphics and interaction involved with the course. Each week when they are assigned to work on this, they always ask for more time when I stop them. They would be using it everyday if I let them.
Who is your favorite hockey player?
My favorite NHL player is Steve Yzerman, former captain of the Detroit Red Wings. Steve was the ideal team player during his years leading Wing Nation as he wasn’t a flashy player but definitely got the job done. He rose to many occasions when his team relied on his leadership and composure. Steve’s hard work and lead by example style helped bring the Stanley Cup back to Detroit with grit and determination. I’m thrilled to see Steve continue to lead the Wings in a positive manner as their General Manager!!! If I had to choose a current Red Wing player it would be Dylan Larkin, as he has filled the same role as Stevie Y, with the same successful results! (plus he’s a homegrown Michigan boy)
