Edmonton Oilers November 2022 Teacher of the Month
Tell us about yourself!
My name is Brandon Isert, and I am the Principal of the online school, Learning Together Anywhere. After spending six years teaching grades 4 and 6 for Northern Lights Public Schools, I was excited to accept my role at Learning Together Anywhere, first as Assistant Principal and now as Principal. I am passionate about emerging educational technology and how it can prepare our youth for the future.
Who is your favorite NHL® player and why?
Leon Draisaitl is my favourite NHL player because he is an artist in passing and shooting the puck. He has to be in the top 3 for passers in the history of the NHL. I also appreciate how he handles himself off the ice; he is a true role model for our youth!
What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?
I liked how engaging the content was. My students loved how it felt like they were playing a video game. I can see STEM on and off the ice, whether it is the rink’s size, the sharpness of a skate sharpening, the length of a stick, how the ice is made, and the logos on the ice. There are thousands of STEM connections when you dig deeper into the game.
If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?
If I played hockey, I would be a forward because I love to help others and be a team player. That would be nice to assist others with scoring goals.
