Minnesota Wild March 2022 Teacher of the Month
Tell us about yourself!
I have been teaching 8th grade Earth and Space Science for 17 years. I became a teacher because I love science and I love seeing students succeed while actively engaged in learning. I am also involved in hockey as the coach of my son’s Squirt A team for the Eastview Hockey Association and also serve as a Board Member. I love all sports and activities and encourage all students to get involved in something!! Go Wild!
Who is your favorite NHL® player and why?
Mats Zuccarello-I highly respect Mats and how he plays the game. He seems like a wonderful teammate, he makes players around him better, and he does it all with a smile on his face. I love watching professional athletes that seem to really enjoy and have passion for the game. Also, to do all of that at 5’8″ is pretty awesome!
What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?
My favorite two things about this program are students connecting the importance of science in sports AND realizing the amount of careers that are involved in sports. Not every kid will make the NHL, but they may become an Ice Technician, a team’s physical trainer, a person on the business side, etc. There are many career opportunities in sports and this program helps students to see that.
If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?
Center-I like being low in the defensive zone and I like faceoffs!
