Ottawa Senators March 2024 Teacher of the Month
Tell us about yourself!
I am currently teaching at Donagh Regional School and this is my 23rd year as an educator. As a homeroom teacher I cover all of the core subject areas including Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies and Health. My interest in teaching grew from my involvement in running sports camps and clinics when I was in high school and university. One of my favorite things about teaching is when your working with a student on something that has been very challenging for them and they finally get it. It’s one of those light bulb moments for them. In my local community I coach a number of minor hockey and softball teams, I run softball pitching clinics, as well as facilitate coaching courses for adults. I am heavily involved in softball locally in my province, across Canada and internationally.
What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?
What I really enjoy about the Future Goals program is that it blends both online and hands on learning for students using the topic of hockey which my students really like. My students are learning how school has an importance in the real world and they can see how the subjects they are learning about have real world applications.
If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?
When I played hockey I was a centerman because I was a strong skater, who handled the puck well and I had an excellent shot.
