Pittsburgh Penguins March 2022 Teacher of the Month
Tell us about yourself!
My name is Bill Black. I am the STEM Teacher at David E Williams Middle School located in the Montour School District. I teach Grades 5-8. This is my 22nd year teaching. The reason I became a teacher was because I was inspired by two teachers I had in high school, the way they treated students and cared for them was an inspiration and I wanted to to be able to do what they did. Seeing students make a breakthrough and getting a skill or concept for the first time is for my the best thing about being a teacher. In my community I help coach various sports from deck hockey and baseball with my son Zach to soccer and softball with my twins Sydney and Riley. Along with my kids, my wife Kim, whom I have been married to for 19 years, I am so grateful and blessed to have.
Who is your favorite NHL® player and why?
Sidney Crosby, not only in my opinion is he the best player in the world, one of the best people in the game when it comes to the little things like giving a kid a puck to delivering season tickets to just being a great human.
What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?
Best thing about the Future Goals program is the easy of the access, it’s fun for the kids and it’s a great sub day plan. STEM in hockey is all over the place, from the staff that takes care of the ice to the players themselves using force and angles to help become better players.
If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?
Growing up with two older brothers and play street hockey, the little brother got put in goal. I was pretty go too, just not good a skating so ice hockey was out, so a goalie.
