Pittsburgh Penguins November 2022 Teacher of the Month
Tell us about yourself!
I teach STEM k-4 in a Title I school in a rural school district. I have taught for 6 years. I love bringing new ideas and technologies to students who may not have the opportunity otherwise. I teach my students about coding, the science of sports, volcanos, hurricanes, the ocean, engineering, and so much more. I like to integrate my class so I also connect many of our learning projects with a read aloud story. Stem is such an important topic and teaching it is my passion. Additionally, I have put on community events through remake learning days, and presented at Pete & C twice, attend IU tech integrator meetups quarterly, and teach yoga to adults and kids at a local studio.
Who is your favorite NHL® player and why?
Malkin because of his drive and dedication to the game and to his teammates. I also love that he is funny and always joking around. Fun fact I met him one time the whole way over in LA!
What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?
My favorite part is that the students LOVE it and it is so easy for me to implement. We see STEM everywhere, from painting the ice to the equipment the players wear. We also have paper Stanley Cups that the students earn in our room after they earn it on their computers.
If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?
Goalie! I would like the intensity of it!
