Washington Capitals December 2022 Teacher of the Month
Tell us about yourself!
I have taught for 26 years. The first 8 years were in North Dakota and the rest have been with Roanoke County Schools. I currently teach grades 6-8, but have also taught Personal Finance and other classes at the county high schools. I love teaching the students computer skills to make them more employable as they become an adult. I started off getting an Accounting degree, but changed majors after 1 1/2 years of that. I still wanted to be able to teach accounting, I just didn’t want to spend my days doing that for a living. I love making a difference in student’s lives.
What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?
Most students can relate to hockey, even if they don’t watch/play the sport, so it is more engaging for the students. Hockey encompasses everything about STEM and the students are engaged in it.
Who is your favorite NHL® player and why?
Alexander Ovechkin – I think he is an awesome player.
If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?
I would be a defenseman as I want to help protect the goal so the other team can’t score.
