Tell us about yourself!

I have been teaching for 20+ years. I started out teaching Physical Education and Math in my home province of Nova Scotia, but 10 years ago was posted to Cold Lake, Alberta with my military husband and three kids. Currently I teach grade 7&8 Math & Science. I became a teacher so that I could help students become the best that they can be. I love bringing engaging programs to my students and letting them see that they can learn about all kinds of different things in many different way. I love to get my classes involved in community initiatives, like collecting food for the local Food Bank or spending time with seniors in the area. My favourite part of teaching is spending time with my students, who every year become “my kids”.

Who is your favorite NHL® player and why?

Connor McDavid because not only is he an amazing athlete, he also cares about his community and does charity work to help those less fortunate than him.

What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?

I love that my students get to learn in a situation that doesn’t “feel” like learning. They just think that they are having FUN! I see STEM in every aspect of hockey…the whole idea of innovation and problem solving-that is what hockey players do ALL of the time!!

If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?

If I played hockey I would play goalie because I like the pressure of being the last line of defence.
