Tell us about yourself!

My name is Nathan Pfeiffer and I currently teach 6th grade Math. I am in the 18th year of my teaching career and absolutely love it just as much now as when I first started. Teaching is the most rewarding job because of the students. You get the opportunity to create amazing connections with your students and see their incredible growth throughout the school year and their academic career. I had known I wanted to be a teacher since high school when I would help my classmates with school work. It is an awesome feeling to see that “light bulb” go off when you help someone understand a new concept. I also had wonderful teachers all throughout my own school that inspired me to want to be like them and let me students see how much fun they can have while learning. I also helped start a student-run business at our school to help students learn real-world skills through entrepreneurship, design, and marketing. We are in the process of opening our own school-wide MakerSpace with the equipment and skills we have gained!

Who is your favorite NHL® player and why?

It is hard to pick one favorite when we have seen so many amazing players in Penguin history, but currently I would have to say Sydney Crosby because of his dedication, all-around play, and how he seems to have the ability to have a positive impact on all the players around him.

What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?

The Future Goals program is incredible in showing the students real-world applications of a lot of concepts. Watching them figure out area, diameter, graphing, and measuring of angles warms my heart as a math teacher! STEM concepts are all around in hockey from the basics physics of the game to the use of more and more advanced statistics to learn positive trends and how to best improve player consistency.

If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?

I would say goalie because while I haven’t ice-skated since I was 12, I always had a good glove!
