Toronto Maple Leafs June 2022 Teacher of the Month
Tell us about yourself!
This year I teach a grade 7 class in Richmond Hill, Ontario. This is my tenth year teaching with the York Catholic District school board. I’ve taught many grades including kindergarten, one, two, three, four as well as being a primary physical education teacher. I have wanted to be a teacher since I was in elementary school myself. I have been lucky enough to have many amazing teachers whom I looked up to and inspired me to be the teacher I am today. I love inspiring my own students each year and encouraging them to reach their goals and be the best they can be.
Who is your favorite NHL® player and why?
As the captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Mats Sundin has been my favourite hockey player since I was a young leafs watching each season with hopes of a Stanley Cup win!
What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?
My favourite part of the Future Goals Program is how it engages students and lets them see STEM utilized in real world examples. A constant question I get from students in daily lessons, especially during math lessons, is “When am I ever going to use this in real life?”. Through the Future Goals Program students see STEM applications in the real world which initiate conversations of their future career goals.
If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?
If I played hockey today I would be a defenseman and continue in the position I had held when I played house league hockey as a young boy. I would be there to help defend my goalie and support my team.
