Florida Panthers January 2023 Teacher of the Month
Tell us about yourself!
This is my 20th year of teaching and I strive every day to be the teacher that I would have wanted my son to have. It is about the content but also about building relationships with the students and families. I currently teach middle school science but I also work with students at risk of failing to support them in successfully completing the requirements for promotion. Working together as educators, students and parents we can help every student to be their best self.
Who is your favorite NHL® player and why?
Aleksander Barkov is my favorite player. Sasha has a strong work ethic, he is unselfish, he is humble, and always working to better himself. He learned a great deal playing with Jamir Jagr, who also has an amazing work ethic.
What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?
I have used Future Goals for years and since my students are in 7th grade I feel the program is about seeing what they are learning connect to the real world. Too often students don’t make that connection.
If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?
If I was to play hockey I think I would play right wing. Wingers have a good balance of doing and supporting. It is also a position to get in front of the net or along the boards to battle.
