New York Islanders February 2023 Teacher of the Month
Tell us about yourself!
I have always enjoyed working with kids. Growing up I was the oldest grandson on my mother’s side and I always seemed to organize stuff to do with my cousins. This has parlayed into my teaching career which is starting its 30th year. I really enjoy teaching science because it helps explain the natural world around us. It answers questions and helps make sense of natural phenomena. In my local community, I am the assistant coach of my daughter’s JV ice hockey team – the Longwood Lions. I also have coached her deck hockey team and basically spend most of my free time driving my daughter to her many hockey endeavors. She also plays for the Girls 16U Islanders Elite, Rocky Point Varsity Field Hockey and has been a member of Team New York’s U16 deck hockey team. I pride myself on being a good dad and role model for her.
What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?
The interactive parts for the students – they like doing the activities on the site. They are well-written and designed well so students can complete them with minimal teacher explanation. They are very self-sufficient.
