New York Islanders April 2022 Teacher of the Month
Tell us about yourself!
I began my relationship with Ever-fi about 8-10 years ago when I was the Director of Technology at Sts Philip & James School. I have been a fan of the NY Islanders since they were first formed! I was one of the kids who created the Islanders Kids Club and used to sit with the players wives and even stayed over at Lorne Hennings one time!! When I learned about integrating hockey with Technology I jumped right in. Fast forward and I now teach 5th grade Science in North Carolina but have brought the program with me because I love it! The students in NC are still a little unsure about hockey but Im helping them through that as well as utilizing all the programs in Ever-fi. **Funny story – Before Covid hit I was volunteering at Ronald McDonald House and they sponsored a game & Bobby Nystrom was there and I of course met with him and had our picture taken !!
Who is your favorite NHL® player and why?
I love all the ‘original players’ and currently I favor Nelson 🙂
What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?
It applies STEM concepts to something the students can relate to – If I had been taught angles with Future Goals I might have enjoyed Geometry
If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?
My three children played hockey while growing up – My son goalie ; Middle daughter Offense ; Youngest daughter defense – It was so much fun when they would play on the same team !!
