Pittsburgh Penguins March 2023 Teacher of the Month
Tell us about yourself!
During my career at Yough, I have predominantly taught the upper elementary, grade six math and science. I became a teacher as a second career choice and teach at the district in which I attended and presently reside. It is my love of the area, my students, and community service that brought me to this career. In addition, I support my community as a volunteer firefighter. I am a part of our Forestry team, and the secretary of the department. I am on our fundraising team and actively participate in serving the community with various events.
Who is your favorite NHL® player and why?
There are many great hockey players, however one of my favorites is Ron Francis, assistant captain – number 10. He is a gentleman, who played center for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Not only did he have class and style both on and off the ice, he was a leader. Francis and Lemieux worked well together, giving the team a solid foundation, enough to lead the league in assists and win two Stanley Cups in the early 1990’s.
What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?
My favorite part of the program is the interaction I see between the program and my students. They love the lessons and look forward to logging on to work on more! In the game of hockey, I see STEM in numerous places from the temperature of the ice, to the pass and speed activities. My students especially enjoy learning about the shot!
If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?
This is a tough decision. I believe defensive position would work best for me, because I am more of a protector.
