Pittsburgh Penguins November 2023 Teacher of the Month
Tell us about yourself!
I have always enjoyed working with kids. Whether it’s teaching, coaching middle school soccer and track, or tutoring, I have really enjoyed watching them growth both academically and socially. I consider myself extremely lucky to do something I truly enjoy for the last 18 years. Every year and every group of students presents new challenges which help me to become a better educator. In addition, I really enjoy teaching math because it impacts so many different career fields.
Who is your favorite NHL® player and why?
Sidney Crosby is easily my favorite NHL player because of the way he gives back to the community and how he is such an ambassador of the game of hockey.
What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?
My favorite part of the Future Goals program is I get to see the students truly engaged in a program that helps them become a better student. STEM is a integral part of the game of hockey. Many of the lessons in the program help the students to answer the question: “When am I ever going to need to know this?”
If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?
I would like to play forward so I would have the chance to score a goal. Sounding the goal horn or hearing the crowd cheer because of someone I did would be a great feeling.
