Pittsburgh Penguins October 2023 Teacher of the Month
Tell us about yourself!
I have been a teacher for 11 years. I have a k-12 Technology Education and 7-12 Computer Science certification. I currently teach a 6th-grade STEAM class in which we do 3D printing, laser engraving, coding and robotics. I wanted to become a teacher to make a positive impact on children and thus society. What I like most about teaching is seeing the impact I have on children. I also donate my time at my church with various activities and I am a huge fan of the game of hockey and the Pittsburgh Penguins!
Who is your favorite NHL® player and why?
My favorite NHL player is Mario Lemieux because he was so talented, won us our first Stanley Cup, won us another cup the next year, then bought the team, saved it from moving to another city and won us three more cups as an owner. He also overcame cancer, back problems and other health issues all while still being the best player in the NHL. He won the scoring title the same year he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease. In addition to his on-ice accomplishments, he is extremely kind and humble.
What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?
My favorite part of the Future Goals program is how it relates science, technology, engineering and math to the game of hockey. I am very passionate about both hockey and STEM and can see STEM in every area of the game, from the equipment, to the rink, broadcasting, and the game itself.
If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?
I do play hockey and I play left defense. I like to see the entire play in the offensive zone and also like to defend my net and goalie as well as start the offensive rush.
