St. Louis Blues October 2022 Teacher of the Month
Tell us about yourself!
I teach 8th grade science and have taught 12 years and coached basketball soccer. I decided to become a teacher because I realized the great opportunity I had to make an impact on a new crop of students each and every year from the great teachers that I had. I knew in 8th grade that I wanted to be a teacher. I DJ and officiate weddings as a side hustle and get the great opportunity to marry some of my former student/athletes the last couple of months. Some of them are to “the age” that I feel this will start to become a regular thing for me. What a great opportunity to continue to be a part of my students’ lives clear after they’ve been students in my room.
What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?
My favorite part is how “game like” if feels and it draws to the “sport lovers” in my room. It keeps students engaged and the skills they learn are applicable in other sports, contents and careers. For instance it makes sense of a coordinate plane as an actual use within a career that I had never thought of previous to this program.
If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?
I would be a coach. I love to get the most out of my athletes and motivate them to give their all. I think I would be able to be quite the “rah rah” guy early and then figure out the game more as my career progressed.
