Boston Bruins November 2023 Teacher of the Month
Tell us about yourself!
My name is Michael Barresi and this is my third year teaching. I teach 5th grade (which means I teach all subjects) at Roosevelt Avenue Elementary in North Attleborough, MA. I became a teacher to help change student’s perspective of school and education. The thing I love most about teaching is seeing the change in a student who might not have cared about education before. Outside the classroom, I volunteer in many different community events including helping with my students sporting events and charity events
Who is your favorite NHL® player and why?
My favorite player is Charlie McAvoy, not only is he a great hockey player but a community leader. He does so much for the city of Boston and state of Massachusetts.
What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?
I love how it connects to both the math and science 5th grade standards in Massachusetts! STEM is the connecting block between school and the real world. It’s the first time students get to use what they learn and apply it to real world situations!
If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?
I would be the goalie because I would like to be in charge of the defense and leading the team and watching them succeed with and without my help as I do in the classroom
