Buffalo Sabres March 2023 Teacher of the Month
Tell us about yourself!
Hello! Thank you so much for the nomination; I am honored! This is my 6th year at Mount Markham Middle School, but my 11th year being a teacher. I currently teach science to sixth graders, but have taught at various grade levels throughout my career. I decided to become a teacher because I have always loved being around children, helping them succeed, and celebrating their accomplishments with them. It has also always been easy for me to make connections with children and I enjoy doing so as I feel teachers/coaches play a very important role in the growth of a human. I believe it is so important to give students “real life” and relatable experiences in school. Introducing to students how that getting creative while problem solving (STEM education) is a great way to have fun while learning content. It also teaches resiliency, which in my opinion is so important no matter what profession they chose!
What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?
My favorite part is the interaction component of the program. I love that they have to answer questions in order to win the Stanley Cup. It gives student a nice outlet for friendly competition while also including educational content.
If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?
Goalie! Even though their gloves stink so much, I think it would be exhilarating.
