Tell us about yourself!

Over the past nine years, I have taught a number of different grades. Currently, I am a grade six generalist at a Science Alternative Program within the Calgary Board of Education. Teaching has always been my passion! However, it has not always occurred in a classroom. For many years, I taught at Environmental Education centers around the world, then moved onto guiding extended wilderness therapy expeditions with at-risk-youth. In 2015, I hung up my hiking boots and canoe paddle, and moved into a classroom, bringing the philosophy we learn best by doing and the knowledge that positive relationships are the most important part of teaching. Throughout the years, I have learned so much from the youth that I have taught and am so thankful for the opportunities I have been blessed with. My favourite part of teaching has always been getting to know my students and the ‘ah-ha’ moments when a concept ‘clicks’.

What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?

My favourite part of the Future Goals program is the real-life application of STEM skills students are learning within the classroom. I also love how this program exposes students to a new world of job opportunities that are connected to STEM.

If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?

If I played hockey, I would have probably played left or right wing. I have played a number of court sports throughout my life (basketball, team handball, volleyball) and I always have played a forward /wing or outside hitter. Additionally, I am on the shorter side and not nearly as flexible as a goalie should be.
