Colorado Avalanche February 2023 Teacher of the Month
Tell us about yourself!
I have been teaching health and Physical education for 41 years and most of my career has been 7th and 8th grade level.I decided to become a teacher in 8th grade because I loved to help kids with athletics and sports skills. Athletics has given a lot of life lessons to me and has helped shape me into the person I am today. What I love most about teaching is the connections that I make with students and all the life lessons that I get to teach them.I love to bike and hike and currently I have backpacked the entire Colorado Trail.
Who is your favorite NHL® player and why?
Cale Makar is my favorite player. He is steady, smart and I believe the best defenseman in the NHL.
What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?
I think the Future Goal program gives the students an opportunity to take science principals and to apply them to the sport of hockey. It is nice to be able to apply the scientific principles in little games and activities that were developed in Future Goals. Of course Future Goals showcases the Avalanche which is my favorite team.
If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?
I would like to play center and so that I would be involved more in the offensive part of the game and be key player in creating plays and scoring goals.
