Why did you decide to become a teacher?

I became a teacher because I did not feel I was contributing much to society as a car designer and I was unhappy with my daughter’s kindergarten curriculum.  Be the change you want to see.

What is your favorite part of Future Goals and how are you using it in your classroom?

Because of the game like quality my students are more willing to work through mistakes, which gives them low risk practice with making sense of problems and persevering. (Math standard of practice 1)

What was your student’s reaction to the program?

Most are slightly concerned that I am actually losing my mind and letting them play a game.  They do struggle with some of the content we have not addressed yet, but it is productive struggle and a great introduction.  Later when it is addressed in the curriculum the students reference this experience.

Who is your favorite player?

Chris Osgood. (I know old school, but you didn’t specify) He was an excellent goalie, no matter what anyone said, was a class act on and off the ice.  He put himself out there when it was necessary and stirred the pot with just enough quiet sarcasm. You can’t get away with that unless you’re good at your job.
