Why did you decide to become a teacher?
Working in the roles as a “specialist” and a Playground Leader with Edmonton Parks and Recreation in the past led me to become a teacher. These were rewarding experiences working with children, and building lifelong learning skills.
What has been your most memorable moment as a teacher?
My most memorable moment has been having former students and parents give me positive feedback and comments on how I made a difference in their lives in helping them to achieve what they are doing now (e.g. going into a particular career, going to university, etc.)
What is your favorite part of Future Goals and how are you using it in your classroom?
My favorite part of Future Goals is that this course offers opportunities to students to apply their math and science skills to real world situations. I am using Future Goals to introduce hockey to my students since they do not have much experience with hockey, as well as introducing math and science concepts. The Science concepts of making predictions, collecting data, conducting analysis, and problem solving are also correlated with Language Arts and Math.
What was your student’s reaction to the program?
My students liked the course and enjoyed playing the games. They found it interesting and fun, and were willing to try their best even though the activities are challenging for the grades 2 and 3 students.
Who is your favorite hockey player?
My favorite NHL player is Connor McDavid because he is an amazing player and leader who is self-motivated, self-disciplined, and hardworking. I am so happy that Connor is with the Oilers!
