Tell us about yourself!

I have been an Elementary French Immersion teacher for the last 20 years. I have taught everything from Kindergarten to Physical Education. I am currently teaching Grade 5 in Red Deer, Alberta. Part of my current assignment includes teaching Math to all 3 grade 5 classes, as well as most other subjects to my homeroom.

I love the “”Aha”” moment. That moment when they are able to figure out something that has been a struggle for them. I love teaching my students that math can be fun, and not just doing equations and memorization.

Outside of the classroom, I’m a mom of 2 boys (ages 15 and 12) and am actively involved with their sports endeavors. I have also been a member of the Red Deer Kinette Club for the past 11 years.

What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?

I love that the Future Goals program shows students how Math and Science can be used outside of the classroom. The real-world application helps them to see how their knowledge can be applied to other domains. I love that it ties in the hockey element, which really hooks certain students.

Who is your favorite NHL® player and why?

I’ve always been a fan of Wayne Gretzky. First of all, we share a birthday, which is awesome! Secondly, I have always thought he was a truly classy player. He cared about his teammates, avoided conflict, and was always respectful of others on and off the ice.

If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?

I would be the goalie. I’m very defensively minded, and I am a goalie in soccer, so I understand, a bit, about the position. Being goalie also involves the least amount of skating, which would be great, because I can’t skate! (Although, I do realize the goalie is usually one of the strongest skaters on the team)
