Why did you decide to become a teacher?
I love working with kids, and enjoy sharing the joy I have of learning with them.
What has been your most memorable moment as a teacher?
My most memorable moment as a teacher was watching a student who really struggled in middle school, and who spent a lot of time trying to improve his math skills, getting his engineering degree.
What is your favorite part of Future Goals and how are you using it in your classroom?
My favorite part of Future Goals is it brings math concepts into real-life situations; something we are always striving to do. I like that it does it in such a way that it brings interest into the subject by integrating things the students enjoy, such as hockey, so it doesn’t seem so much of a chore to them. High interest gives more impact in their learning.
What was your student’s reaction to the program?
I’ve typically used this at the end of the year so they have had the concepts previously, and some are becoming tired of “math lessons”. Future Goals brings high interest to a weary group of kids and intrinsically motivates them to want to complete it. It puts a spark in their end of the year learning!
Who is your favorite hockey player?
Anže Kopitar would have to be my top pick. (Many good ones!)
