New York Islanders January 2022 Teacher of the Month
Tell us about yourself!
My name is Nicole Miele, this is my 15th year teaching. I’ve always known that I wanted to be an educator. Since I was a young girl I would pretend to be a teacher and grade my friends dittos that’s I had made for them. My main goal is to make my students feel safe and loved and to have fun while learning. I tutor children in my own community in math by playing games that’s encourage and promote learning the standards. I’m a mom of two boys Christian aged 10 and Daniel 4 and I want to be the teacher I’d hope for them to have in their classroom.
Who is your favorite NHL® player and why?
Anders Lee because he is the heart of the team.
What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?
My students were extremely engaged in the learning activities in the Future Goals program. Now when I watch hockey I think about the angle of the puck and the temperature of the ice when I never did before.
If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?
I would like to be a forward, I like to see possibilities where others do not see them and I’d like to imagine I could apply that to making goals.
