Pittsburgh Penguins December 2023 Teacher of the Month
Tell us about yourself!
Hello! I am Margie Espey, I am currently in my 24th year with Pittsburgh Public Schools. I love teaching Middle School Math! I love working with children, and helping math come to life. We like to do a lot of hands on learning in my classroom! My students love to cook and complete projects that help them learn math. I am the athletic faculty manager and the middle school instructional team leader. I also love to teach baton, and dance to students. I actively participated in the TIA organization for 20 + years! Coaching, instructing, and judging baton, colorguard, and dance teams. I am very involved with my church and attend Bible study weekly.
Who is your favorite NHL® player and why?
I love Crosby and Malkin! They are an amazing team together. I also loved their determination on the ice! They don’t give and they work well together!
What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?
I love how the program engages students with the real world and mathematics. It’s important to show our students that math is everywhere! The students love the program! They often times want to go on to the next lesson. They love earning the cups!
If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?
I would play defense because I would love to block the other team from scoring. Defense has a lot of drive and motivation and that describes me!
