Why did you decide to become a teacher?

I attended a health class at SIUE and feel in love with the subject. The health professors were so enthusiastic and passionate about their subject. At this time, I knew I could teach others about health and biology as enthusiastically as my professors had taught me.

What is your most memorable moment as a teacher?

Most memorable….. I saved this question for the last one to answer as it is very hard to say just one. Remember I’ve taught 26 years! Memorable moments from past coworkers, to students, to activities in the clubs I have sponsored, to school wide activities, just one is impossible. I’ve made some life long friends that started as a coworker. Shout out to one of my friends, Lisa Yarborough, and her love for Chris Pronger. I do mean serious love for the guy!!! To my current best friend, Ms. Wilson, I met through coaching Girls of the Run at our school. From Outstanding students who I still am in contact with after graduation to my favorite Science Club field trips to the St. Louis Zoo Overnight program. Sorry I can’t pick just one and I have seven more years to teach before I can retire. More memories to make!

What is your favorite part of Future Goals and how are you using it in your classroom?

This year I used the program in my Accelerated classes since our district was 100% remote. Students had a weekly trophy to earn. If students scored a 70% or higher on each trophy, earning the Stanley Cup, extra credit was then awarded. Last year I used the program in my summer school classes. I used gift cards as an incentive for the first one that finished and also a random drawing of all students earning the Stanley Cup.

What was your student’s reaction to the program?

I’ve had several students thank me for providing them the opportunity to complete the Hockey Scholar Math and Science programs. Students love the interaction of the program.

Who is your favorite hockey player?

Parayko #55, On my daughter, Lacey’s 16th birthday she attended a Blues game and she had made a sign for him. Parayko tossed her a puck after seeing the birthday sign! Then by accident she met him at a restaurant. He was very nice and genuine with her. He has a fan for life from my daughter and myself!
